Band Discovery: Kishi Bashi

Kishi Bashi is the stage name of Kaoru Ishibashi, violinist extraordinaire, touring musician for Regina Spektor, and member of musical collective Of Montreal.

Kishi Bashi‘s music will remind a lot of people of another indie violinist, Owen Pallett – they play solo but they achieve a larger, more surround sound using lots of loopings and reverbs. The music itself is very whimsical and enchanting, like something out of a fantasy. It is very appealing and will have you daydreaming. Pretty amazing really.

Having only an EP, Kishi Bashi is planning to release his debut full length later this year. Take a listen to the whole EP below, paying special attention to the first two standout tracks, Manchester and Bright Whites. Afterwards, have a sneak peak at the wonderfully quirky teaser video for Bright Whites.
