Album To Check Out: The Men – Open Your Heart

The Men, a four-piece post-punk band from Brooklyn, burst onto the buzz scene late last year with their sophomore record, Leave Home. It was an aggressive, abrasive record that made no pretensions about its punk roots and was really good in going about it.

Compared to Leave Home then, Open Your Heart, the band’s follow-up record, is a gentler, softer affair. Sure, the charging, rocking songs are there as evidenced by the title track. But there exists cuts like Candy, a song with southern-rock and alt-country charms, as well as the fact that more than half of the tracks in the album are instrumental. Open Your Heart is a much more diverse record. It is also more fulfilling and complete, with smoother flows and transitions. A very good album you should check out.

Take a listen to the streams for the rollicking title track Open Your Heart and jam-worthy album closer Ex-Dreams below.

The Men – Open Your Heart comes out 3/6 via Sacred Bones (order here)
