Album To Check Out: Ben Howard – Every Kingdom

Last Saturday, I got the chance to catch a short headlining set by Ben Howard as part of the Communion Tour at the Old Rockhouse. Already a huge star in his native UK, Howard is trying to cross-over into these United States. His debut album, Every Kingdom, was released last year to critical acclaim at the UK and is now being prepped for re-release here.

From my impression of his show, I can see why Howard has all the tools to be a star. His songs have a dark, moodiness to them that balances its folksy roots. Howard has talked about the influence of folk legend Nick Drake in his music and its easy to catch where the inspiration came from.

Check out the videos from the two best tracks of the album below – the joy of opener Old Pine and the solemnity of closer Promise.

Ben Howard – Every Kingdom comes out 4/3 via Communion (order here)
