Saturday night bought Sharon Van Etten and her band to the Luminary. Though the night got off to a rough start due to the doors opening 45 minutes late, it ended up being an amazing night of music. SVE and her band played a 15-song hour-and-a-half set of music covering most of the songs from my current favorite album for this year, Tramp, and a couple more from her excellent sophomore album Epic.
The highlight of the night though came at the start of the encore, when Sharon convinced Adam Granduciel of openers The War on Drugs to play guitars for her on crowd favorite One Day (which wasn’t part of the setlist). Sharon’s stage and crowd banter (her favorite cheese is funky) only added to the warmth and intimacy of the show – at times, it feels like SVE is in your living room playing just for you. One of my favorite concerts so far this year.
