Hazy shoegaze band No Joy started out as a long distance email collaboration between Los Angeles-based Jasamine White and Montreal-based Laura Lloyd. After releasing a couple of demos and some enthusiastic tweeting from Bethany Consentino of Best Coast after seeing a local show of theirs, the pair found success and signed to Mexican Summer – opening for the likes of Surfer Blood and Marnie Stern.
Now a quartet and firmly based in Montreal, No Joy are releasing Negaverse, a complimentary five song EP supporting their debut album Ghost Blonde last year. Like the low-key Ghost Blonde, Negaverse featured a lo-fi DYI-based aesthetic that is filled with rhythmic loops and murky reverb. As its cover art suggests, it could represent the soundtrack of a dust-filled road trip across continental America.
