Twin Shadow is the alter ego of George Lewis Jr, the Domincan Republic-born Brooklyn-based musician and master of style. The music that he makes is pretty much a love letter to the 80s. It is a mix of new wave synth-pop flourished with R&B stylings.
His debut album Forget was a break-out hit – critically lauded by reviewers and commercially embraced by listeners. This sets up high expectations for the follow-up sophomore album Confess. And I’m glad to report that the album gamely meets them.
Confess expands on the sounds and beats of Forget. The production is more expansive and the songs shinier. The record still mines the same 80s-based synths of its predecessor but this is a good thing. Twin Shadow knows what he is good at. An enjoyable record.
