If you’re anything like me, then you probably fell in love with that great Portishead record Dummy, an album that made you love all things epic and trippy with relation to music . It has been four long years since the last Portishead record, the severely underrated aptly-titled Third. And I’m sorry to say that, no, their long awaited fourth album, announced way back in 2010, is still not ready for officially release.
In the meantime, you would have to subsist yourself with Geoff Barrow’s side project with his band Beak>. A little different from the trip-hop that Barrow invented with Portishead, the music that Beak> creates is more of a droning, chugging krautrock mixed with post-punk sensibilities. Their sophomore record called >> is still distinctively Barrow though which means it’s distinctively great. (Yes, that’s the name of the record, and yes, I still don’t know how to pronounce it).
