As part of Antony and the Johnsons, the music collective that he leads, Antony Hogarty has been making deeply emotional music for close to a decade. With an outwordly vibrato and his painfully earnest lyrics, Antony mesmerizes us and empathizes with us at the same time – singing about important subjects such as empowerment, gender roles, and death.
Cut The World, the band’s fifth studio is also their first live album. Backed by the Danish National Chamber Orchestra and composed of some of the best songs from their catalogue, the album is a perfect summation point for what the Antony and his band has done so far. Striking especially is the second track, Future Feminism, where Antony monologues and muses about the idea of feminization of authority.
If you have never heard of Antony and the Johnsons before, Cut The World will be a great introduction to the wonderful world of music that Antony inhabits.
