Since coming back from their break-up, post-rock veterans Swans have been chugging along as strong as ever. After almost 30 years of playing music, band leader Micahel Gira has proven that he still has something to say and the songs he creates backs him up.
The Seer, Swan‘s second full length studio album since reforming, is a mythic, apocalyptic draining, epic of a record. At around two hours of length and with song lengths ranging up to 30 minutes, The Seer is not for the faint of heart. But there is a sense of reward for those who decide to stick around and listen to the whole album. There is a richness and majesty to the songs. Gira’s gruff is balanced by the sweetness of guest vocalists such as Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (in the wonderful Song for a Warrior) and Low member Mimi Partker, as well as by the overwhelming nature of the songs. Go on, experience the whole of The Seer, you won’t regret it.
