Taken By Trees is the solo project of Swedish singer songwriter Victoria Bergsman, formerly of the Concretes (you might also recognize her as the female singer from the whistling Peter Bjorn and John song, Young Folks). As Taken By Trees, Bergsman has creates a gentle, atmospheric sound layered by synths and her otherworldly, soothing voice.
Just like her sophomore record East of Eden was inspired by Bergsman’s field recordings from her travels to Pakistan, Other Worlds, Taken By Tree‘s latest album, is influenced by Bergsman’s journeys. This time, the inspiration was Hawaii.
This is not a typical ukelele-based Hawaii album that you might think. Instead, as with all Taken By Trees albums, it’s more of a atmospheric record that transports you to a specific state of mind and place. You can instantly hear the calming influence of the islands in the songs. As you listen, the melodies will fly you over fields of lush greeneries and ponds and awash you with gentle breezes over seashells and sand. A quite lovely album. indeed
