Saturday night bought Swedish sisters First Aid Kit to the Firebird here in St Louis for some folk-inspired goodness. The Söderberg sisters have one of the purest voices in music today and together produce one of the best dual harmonies not seen since Fleet Foxes perfected the art. Obviously then, this show was a must-see for me.
Interestingly after the band came out for their first song, the mics blew out in the venue, which necessitated a 20 minute delay in the sister’s set. Undaunted, First Aid Kit launched into an impromptu, acoustic version of their cover of Fleet Foxes‘ Tiger Mountain Peasant Song. This acoustic version was such a rare treat that I felt St Louis was truly lucky to see this performance.
After all the technical issues were fixed, First Aid Kit came back for a rapturous welcome from the crowd and promptly serenaded the crowd with their beautiful harmonies. Towards the end, the Söderberg sisters started rocking out to their more upbeat songs such as The Lion’s Roar, their long hair all-a-flying. At this point, me and the rest of the crowd have grins on our faces and goosebumps in our arms. It was that good.
