Album To Check Out: The Luyas – Animator

The Luyas are a Montreal-based quartet who specialize in atmospheric-based art rock. Born from Montreal’s distinctive art scene, The Luyas count among it’s member former players from the equally arty Bell Orchestre and often collaborate and get production assistance from the most famous Canadian band of them all – Arcade Fire. Led by singer/guitarist Jessie Stein, the songs of The Luyas have the distinction of lulling you into a false sense of comfort while at the same time stimulating you with its experimental tendencies.

Animator is the band’s third studio album, and second major release after last year’s Too Beautiful To Work. It is a more intimate and quieter album than its predecessor. But the quietness does give way to more beauty that you’ll notice more and more of on repeated listens. A meditative and pretty album.
