Crystal Castles are Canadians Ethan Kath and Alice Glass. In case you weren’t familiar with them before (you might have heard their single with The Cure‘s Robert Smith), just know that Crystal Castles create cathartic, uneasy, occasional melodic, chippy, experimental electronic music highlighted by Glass’s ear-shattering wails. This music may not sound appealing in description, but trust me when I say that all these coalesce into something beautiful once everything comes together.
(III) is Crystal Castles‘ third (self-titled) record. It also might be their most approachable record to date. Kath vowed to do away with all computers when producing and recording the album, which is part of the reason. The other is that the music is softer by Crystal Castles standards and less confrontational. Don’t get me wrong, this record is still vintage Crystal Castles and as such, expect to be challenged by it to discover it’s true potent.
