If there is one word that would define The Men, the Brooklyn-based punk rock band, it would be reliable. Since breaking into the scene four years ago with their debut record, the group has, like clock-work, released a new record each year after. The Men started really getting attention with their sophomore record Leave Home with it’s all-out punk bombast. Their follow-up album (and third overall record) Open Your Hand surprised it’s listeners when The Men threw a curve-ball and went with a largely folk-rock direction, thus proving their versatility and that they are not a one-genre band.
And so with year four comes a new record, New Moon. Listeners again wonder what direction The Men are going to take. It turns out both. The first half of the record relies again on the band’s new-found appreciation for classic Southern country, while the second half turns up the intensity with straight-up high energy punk rock. Either case, both sides provide a rolling good time.
The Men are coming to St Louis! They will be playing at the Firebird on 4/28 (tickets here)
