Album To Check Out: Bleached – Ride Your Heart

BleachedAs I’m writing this entry, I’m looking outside my window and seeing a whole bunch of white. The first day of spring arrived a couple of days ago. However, Mother Nature had other plans and decided to bring with her a record snow storm to St Louis and dumped as much as a foot of snow outside my doorsteps. As I was trudging through the snow earlier this morning, I can’t help but think that I am SOOO ready for the sun and warmth. More pointedly, I am so over the winter and want to skip spring and head straight for summer!

That must be the mindset of sisters Jennifer and Jessica Clavin when they decided on the timing of the release of their debut record Ride Your Heart. The sisters form the band Bleached, having risen from the ashes of their former band, the punkish Mika Miko. The music that Bleached makes is straight up California summer, filtered through a lo-fi garage sound. The booming bass lines combined with the marching drum beats makes you imagine driving your car with the top down as you overlook the surf and the sand of the beach. The lyrics are equivocally summer too, as the sisters sing about love flings, boys (that drive you crazy), and finding the next exciting stop. It’s sunny, it’s cheery, and more importantly, it’s fun! Bring on the summer!
