If you are the sort of smart, discerning music fan that I think you are (and you most likely are since you are reading this blog 😉 ), then you probably know who James Blake is. Long considered the face of the thinking man’s dub-step that originated across the pond (as opposed to the loud overbearing kind that’s popular here Stateside), Blake first burst onto the music scene in 2010 with his soulful cover of Feist‘s Limit To Your Love. The beautiful cover quickly endeared him to music critics. And Blake, with his cherubic looks and angelic voice, was quickly anointed as the heir apparent for the future of music, easily placing second on BBC’s Sound Of 2011 polls.
With the successful release of his eponymous debut record, Blake has shown that he has graduated from being the next big thing to actually being the next big thing and has grown beyond the whole dubstep genre. With his sophomore record Overgrown, James Blake is finally revealing the whole of himself to the listening public. Filled with quiet, gorgeous melodies, Overgrown allows the sensitive, thoughtful voice of Blake to shine. With James Blake, that’s all we wanted to hear anyway. Guy is a star.
