Album To Check Out: Aluna George – Body Music

AlunaGeorgeWe are now deep into the middle of summer. So far, rather than the scorching hot summer a year ago, we have been having a relative mild and even cool summer, at least where I am living (it’s a balmy 67 degrees right now in St Louis as I write this). Perhaps appropriately, we are experiencing a string of summer albums that exudes cold chill instead of blistering hotness. The two more prominent albums that I am referring to are Disclosure’s Settle, and this week’s newest release, Aluna George’s Body Music.

Like Disclosure (whom they collaborated with), Aluna George are a UK-based electronic duo. Composed of Aluna Francis, who sings on the tracks, and George Reid, who provides the beats, Aluna George blends British house music with slick R&B sensibilities. The result is a futuristic dance-pop sound that ironically feels very music in the present. The music is very shiny and full of sheen and will have you banging your bodies whether in your pool or in the club. The duo have already been steadily building hype since they released a number of singles a year ago. Body Music collects these buzzy singles along with a number of new songs into one breezy cohesive collection of dance ready summer album. Bring on the summer of cool.
