I first wrote about English rock quartet Cheatahs about a year when I first heard their debut full length Extended Plays. Extended Plays is not a traditional full-length album by any means though. Rather, it is a combination of Cheatahs’ two released EPs Coared and SANS. Led by Nathan Hewit, who was also part of the English band Male Bonding, the music of Cheatahs in Extended Plays harken back to early 90s indie rock – guitar driven with a hint of adrenaline and psychedelia thrown in.
Cheatahs’ follow-up self-titled record that is coming out then is actually the band’s first traditional full length. Cheatahs the record is actually a more psychedelic album than Extended Plays. It’s fuzzier and swirlier and approaches a level of shoegaze-ness that its predecessor only touched upon. An album to check out if you like the smoke and the haze.
