Last Friday night brought New Jersey band Real Estate for a chill night of music here in St Louis. Coming off the release of their critically adored (and one of my personal favorites for the year) third record Atlas, Real Estate treated the excited rowdy crowd with for their first live listen of the new songs. And it was the perfect soundtrack for relaxing away the end of the work week and the end of spring.
As with all Real Estate live performances though, the real fun is in seeing the band work their magic on their guitars. The way Martin Courtney and Matt Mondanile sync and harmonize their guitar playing to embellish their songs was just a joy to watch. Being an amateur guitar playing myself, I know I spent half the show watching Courtney and Mondaile effortlessly guide their fingers along the guitar strings in hope I could absorb some knowledge. Whether you are a guitar playing fan or not though, though there’s no denying the power of Real Estate‘s jams and it makes for a great concert experience.
Austin psych-rock band Pure X started the night off right with their chill washed out songs and moody guitar playing.
Photos from the show are embedded below, along with a recorded video of the terrific Atlas opener Had To Hear.
