It has been four months since the beloved all-girl indie noise pop band The Vivian Girls have announced their break-up, leaving a big hole amongst underground girl power movements. While it is sad that The Vivian Girls are no more, we still have the members of band going on their solo projects. Case in point, bassist Katy Goodman aka Kickball Katy is still going on strong with her solo project La Sera.
La Sera‘s first two records have been more of the poppy break-up variety, more of a bummed-out and solitary affair. With her third record Hour of the Dawn though, Goodman have specifically decided to perk-up. In fact, it is the first La Sera record that distinctively sounds like a lost Vivian Girls album. Combining a sunny outlook with the lo-fi grit that’s been The Vivian Girls‘ trademark, Hour of the Dawn is Kickball Katy kicking out her shoes and going in full pop-punk mode.
