Concert Gallery: Mutual Benefit @ The Luminary

Last night brought the Brooklyn-based Mutual Benefit to St Louis to play at The Luminary. Mutual Benefit was born from the writings and music of Jordan Lee who traveled the country over from Columbus to Austin to St Louis itself to Boston and finally to Brooklyn, gathering musician friends along the way while building toward his first full length record, Love’s Crushing Diamonds. In fact, Love’s Crushing Diamonds was written and finished in St Louis.

Mutual Benefit creates beautiful emotive music that is unabashedly earnest and wide-eyed innocent. This was in full display at last night’s show and was even more enveloping now that Lee has a full band behind him. The St Louis crowd that came out for this Monday night show were treated to a fully intimate, unquestionably lovely show from Lee and his band. I fully enjoyed the show.
